Molly Z - High School is Over

Bulk Film Molly
Molly: Self-Portrait

Molly's last day of high school was yesterday.  She is technically in high school still but she doesn't have to attended.  Today and tomorrow are senior finals but as a lifetime CSF (California Scholastic Federation - 3.0 GPA for 5 straight semesters) member she is excused from them.  Next week are the under-senior finals so she can sleep in.  Her only obligations are graduation practice and graduation.  The "Senior Trip" is this weekend and they are going to Disneyland, the beach, and I have no idea where else.  It is like 3 days long.

Sports: Molly has a great year.

TC Volleyball 2010 058
Molly (far right) calls for a set

Volleyball:
* 1st team All-Southern League
* One of the top power hitters in the league, especially with the shoot (the setter is on the other side of the court and sets the ball almost horizontal - it is a thing of beauty to behold) and she played the 93 games during the season, which was 2nd most on the team.  The most played by the anyone on the team was 94 games.
* The team made it to the semi-finals in the section tournament.  A section here has more schools then many states.  An example is that this section (9 sections in California) has about 180 high schools while the State of Nevada has a total of about 110 high schools.

* Took 2 AP classes this year, English and Biology (AP is Accelerated Placement and the students get college credit and an A is equal to 5 grade points instead of the normal 4.
* Over-all GPA should be 4.14 at the end of high school.  That's a lot better then I ever dreamed of in my high school daze (this is meant to be misspelled - The state I was in most of the time:-).
* Senior class representative on the school student body counsel.

Molly and date go to Winter Homecoming

* Designed the "Winter Homecoming Program" and the "MORP" tickets (MORP is prom backwards and is a Sadie Hawkins-like event where the students go somewhere special, this year Monterey Bay and last year to the musical "Wicked" in San Francisco)

Cal-Baptist-Building[1]
Cal Baptist (CBU)

College Plans
* She is registered to go to California Baptist University (CBU) in Riverside, CA.
* She is planning to major in Graphic Design.
* She has some scholarships all ready but we are hoping and praying for more:)

We are all very busy with the end of the school year.  Glenis is now teaching across town at Julian School after 20 years at Osborn Elementary.  She is still teaching fifth grade and loving it.  She loved Osborn, but it was a very high risk school and Julian has those rich people.  I am still teaching at Creekside Middle in Patterson (about 25 miles from where we live).  This year I taught Algebra (the basic 8th grade class with some very bright 7th graders) and Algebra Essentials (8th graders who got a D or lower in Pre-Algebra as 7th graders) and had a very good time.  Next year I will be the Geometry teacher and that is the best and the brightest math students in the school.

A busy summer is coming up.
* Molly's graduation.
* Molly's graduation party.
* Glenis will be going up to the Portland, OR area to spend time with her parents. Health and other issues need her there for awhile.
* Molly is planning to go to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip at the end of June.
* Glenis' niece is getting married in Pennsylvania in August and at least some of us are going.
* Molly goes to CBU for a freshman retreat at the beginning of September.
* Molly begins college on September 5.

I'm losing my breath just thinking about it:-)

Remember us in your prayers.

Summer Basketball

The "Eagles" summer travel team is playing basketball again this year. It is a team made up of returning players from last year's jv and varsity Turlock Christian teams and incoming freshman. The teams, especially the varsity, had great seasons during the school year. The varsity won the Southern League outright for the first time in the school's history and then went to the play-offs, taking 2nd in the Sac-Joaquin section and qualifying for the Californian State tournament, seeded 8th in Northern California.

They are taking that confidence into the summer schedule. They will be attending a team camp in the Sonora area and a big tournament in South Lake Tahoe at the end of July.

The team played a little one day tournament in Merced at Golden Valley High School this last week and did very well. Molly had 12 rebounds, 2 blocks shots, and 6 points in a 42-19 win over Merced. She also did very well in a 43-24 win over Golden Valley leading the team in blocks with 5, in rebounds with 9, and points with 12 including 2 three pointers.

Summer Time Blues

Summer vacation is over and the summer season is almost over. Its been a long time since my last blog.

School has began for all three of us. Here is a summary of what each of us is doing.

Trent - Teaching Pre-Algebra to seventh graders - They make 8th grade students look like clear thinking, level headed adults. I know Molly was in 7th grade at one time, but love must have blinded me. They are the most bizzare group of students I have ever been associated with. They are nice kids, just lack any social filters. Helping with the statistics for the TC JV volleyball team.

Glenis - Teaching at Osborn School for the 19th year. 5th grade for about the 18th year. Lead teacher for her grade level.

Molly - Now a sophomore. Taking Algebra II, Cemistry, Band. She is on the JV Volleyball team, which is doing very well. She went back packing with friends and is currently returning from a high school girls retreat with the Monte Vista youth group. Molly has finished her driver's eduation class, that's the book learning part, and will be behind the wheel soon. She and I went out and drove a few weeks ago. She was NASCAR like.

Pinecrest Lake, May 2008

Hi Everyone,

We went to Pinecrest Lake the first week of the summer vacation. We joined our friends the Alameda's, Roos', Bishel's and Guftason's (young and old) for a great time. Fishing, boating (we rented a party boat one day), biking, and many other things. The weather was great. The friends were great. All had a great time. Take a look at the pics to feel as if you were a part of the adventure.
